Microgreen Munch Mix - Backyard Chickens
6–8 hens - One generous feed, 1–2 feeds per week.
Fresh 150g resealable punnet.
Pea shoots, sunflower shoots, wheatgrass and radish shoots are a proper four-way hit of goodness for your girls. Pea and sunflower shoots are both naturally high in protein, a huge help during the autumn moult, when your hens are pouring resources into growing new feathers.
They're also packed with vitamins A, C, E and K, plus the omega-6 fats and magnesium sunflower shoots are famous for. Wheatgrass brings the chlorophyll and beta-carotene that give egg yolks that deep, golden colour keepers love to see, along with plenty of fibre for happy digestion and iron for all-round condition.
Radish shoots add a peppery brassica hit - colourful pink and purple stems your girls tend to go for first, loaded with vitamin C and the antioxidant compounds you find in the broccoli family.
Together, the four make a fresh, treat that's especially valuable in winter - when free-range foraging is limited and shop-bought layer feed alone can leave your flock craving greens.
Beyond the nutrition, there's the enrichment: chickens love to peck, tug and forage through a fresh mat, and it satisfies the natural instinct pellets never will.
